Configure Intellisync PIM information for Synchronization

Note: while the information below is for Intellisync application and BlackBerry Desktop Manager versions 4.1 and less, some of the steps and procedures could be useful when dealing with synchronization issues with new versions of BDM and Synchronize application.
FACT:
- BlackBerry Desktop Manager
- BlackBerry Desktop Manager 3.5
- BlackBerry Desktop Manager 3.6
- BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.0
- BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.1
- BlackBerry Intellisync
SYMPTOM:
- Unable to configure Intellisync PIM information for synchronization
- Unable to synchronize Address Book to a RIM BlackBerry
- Unable to synchronize Contacts to a RIM BlackBerry
- Unable to synchronize Calendar to a RIM BlackBerry
- Unable to synchronize Memo Pad to a RIM BlackBerry
- Unable to synchronize Tasks to a RIM BlackBerry
- Determine which application is being processed when Intellisync fails
FIX:
- Prerequisite:
- Determine RIM BlackBerry Desktop Software version.
- Verify PIM compatibility with BlackBerry Desktop Software version.
- Connect the RIM BlackBerry handheld to the desktop computer via cradle/USB.
- Confirm that the Desktop Manager title bar reads connected. If not troubleshoot physical connection.
Clearing Intellisync PIM information:
- Start the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- Select Intellisync.

- Select Configure PIM.

- Highlight “Address Book” and click Choose… button.

- Select “<None>” from list and click OK button.

- Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other listed “Handheld Applications” (e.g. Calendar, Memopad and Tasks).
- Once finished, all items should not have a check mark next to them. Select OK.

- A windows will pop up asking for confirmation. Click OK again.

- Click Close button to exit Intellisync.

- Select Options, then Connection Settings.

- Select Detect. The BlackBerry should be detected on whichever COM port or USB port the cradle is connected to.

- Close and restart the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
- After restarting, select the Intellisync icon again.
- Select Configure PIM.

- Attempt to isolate the problem by only choosing one PIM database at a time and click OK.
(Note: If the PIM application is not present in the list of the item you are attempting to set to synchronize it is not available for sync at this time).

- Verify Synchronize PIM is checked and click Synchronize Now.

- If synchronization fails, delete the BlackBerry PIM configuration file.
- Reset field mapping.
- Close the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
- Restart BlackBerry Desktop Software and configure Intellisync for synchronization.
- If still unable to synchronize or if the problem has been isolated to one PIM database:
- Clear the handheld databases on the RIM BlackBerry handheld via Backup and Restore.
- Deleted and undeleted the Desktop [sync] service book on the handheld.
- If the problem persists, please contact your Customer Service for wireless customers.
Reset Configuration
