Fix My Berry

Occasionally the input language icon will appear in the top right hand corner of any screen that requires typing. Most users find it annoying, and in the case of some applications, it covers information, other icons or avatars.

By pressing the short cut keys ALT and then Enter, the input language icon is supposed hide. Unfortunately, some users are reporting the the icon is being quite stubborn and refusing to go away.

Some research on the subject reveals that there is no easy fix. But it can be resolved by the following:

    • FYI: The resolution requires the a back up on the PC must have been saved before the input language icon became an issue.

Step One: Wipe the Handheld device:

• On the BlackBerry device; go to Options.
• Select Security Options.
• Select General Settings.
• While in the General settings screen, press the Menu button.
• Select Wipe Handheld from the list and follow the prompts to clean out the device and reset the manufactuers defaults.

Step Two: Selective Restore of databases

• On the PC; open Blackberry Desktop Manager and connect the BlackBerry device.
• Click on Back Up and Restore option.
• Click on the Advanced button.
• Click on File and select Open from the drop down options.
• Locate the Back Up file required and Open.
• In the computer databases window, select the very first file. Press and HOLD the shift button down on the keyboard. Scroll down to the very bottom of the list and select the very last file in the list. This will highlight all the files in the computer databases window. (You can release the shift key now as well, lol)
• Scroll through the computer databases list and locate Input Method Switcher Option. Press and hold the Ctrl button on the keyboard and select this option. It is no longer highlighted.
• Click on the >> button in the middle of the screen. This will restore and move the computer databases over to the device databases (without the Input Method Switcher Option) and hopefully will resolve the issue.
